Australian Hunter 98 is out Thursday!

Deer are at the forefront of this edition, with good reason. Whether pursuing a hard-earned trophy or hoping to bring home quality venison, they have plenty to offer.

Fallow bucks feature prominently, from understanding the timing needed to find them to bowhunting during the rut. We also follow the pursuit of red deer after careful preparation, then head across the Tasman to breathtaking New Zealand country, where steep terrain, bitter conditions and a bonus Arapawa ram combine for unforgettable hunting.

That cold brings genuine risk, so we look at recognising and treating hypothermia. On a warmer note, we explore a clever NZ solution to one of the country’s major pest problems. And once the venison is home, three easy, flavour-packed recipes show just how rewarding wild meat can be when shared with those closest to us.

Pigs also feature throughout the edition, with one trip combining hunting, fishing and time with the kids, proving some of the best days in the bush are not defined by a single pursuit.
